How to Know If Porcelain Veneers Are Right for You

Dr. Timothy Luong uses porcelain veneers to help patients improve their smile at his Henderson, NV office. They are thin shells that are bonded directly to the front of the teeth. Dr. Timothy Luong is a doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Tennessee who is highly trained in the diagnostics and treatment of oral health conditions. He can use veneers to address many dental situations, including chipped, cracked or broken teeth; discoloration or stains; and gaps. Veneers are used to make minor improvements that create a beautiful smile. They are custom-made to match the natural teeth and can change their color, shape, size, and length.

Candidates for porcelain veneers

Dr. Timothy Luong will assess your current oral health and determine if you’re a good match by performing a comprehensive dental exam at his Henderson, NV office. Ideal candidates for this procedure shouldn’t have any signs of gum disease or issues with teeth grinding or clenching. Also, the best patient for veneers will have enough tooth enamel to support the restoration. During your consultation, she will listen to your goals and concerns in order to decide if porcelain veneers are a long-lasting and appropriate option.

Why should I get veneers?

There are many benefits to choosing porcelain veneers to repair your smile in Henderson, NV. They include:

1. Fix minor cosmetic issues: Since porcelain veneers do not alter the position of your teeth, they can immediately fix cracks, chips, crooked, or gapped teeth. They do a great job of camouflaging many minor cosmetic problems by changing the teeth’s appearance, quickly repairing your smile.
2. Whiten the teeth: Veneers are stain-resistant, so they instantly whiten the teeth. With proper care, you also won’t have to worry about discoloration or stains developing.
3. Restore enamel: For patients with enamel erosion or abrasion, veneers can offer durability.

The porcelain veneers process

Porcelain veneers usually take two separate visits to our Henderson, NV office. During the first visit, Dr. Timothy Luong prepares the teeth by shaving off a bit of the existing enamel. This allows the veneers to sit evenly on the surface and to adhere more successfully. Next, she creates a custom set, using dental impressions, that addresses your concerns. Temporary veneers are placed in the mouth until the high-quality porcelain set is ready. At the second visit, the temporary set is removed and the permanent ones are placed. Adjustments are made to the fit to allow for the most comfortable result.

Some mild sensitivity to hot and cold food and beverages may occur for a few days following treatment. Since the procedure is minimally invasive and requires no incisions, patients do not usually experience pain. The only preparation needed is the removal of a thin layer of existing enamel from the teeth.

Veneers should be cared for like natural teeth with regular flossing and brushing. Regular dental exams and routine dental cleanings also allow our team to monitor the condition of your veneers and overall oral health. With proper care, veneers can last up to ten years, depending on a patient’s oral hygiene routine.

Will my insurance company cover veneers?

Typically, insurance companies don’t cover veneers. This is because it is considered an elective procedure and not deemed medically necessary. Our team can work with you directly to determine if your insurance coverage will cover any part of the costs associated with veneers. Our professional staff can also help you with financial costs and inform you of various financing and payment plans that are available.
